Homemade Easy Filipino Crab Relleno Recipe

Growing up on an island feels like a little blessing. I was lucky to grow up surrounded by the sea, where fresh-caught fish and seafood were always within reach. From simple family meals to special dishes prepared for celebrations, seafood has always been part of our table and a big part of my childhood memories.

One of the dishes that brings back those island memories is Crab Relleno. There’s something extra special about using freshly caught crabs, taking the meat out, preparing a flavorful filling, and stuffing it back into the shell.

It may take a little extra time and effort to prepare, but for me, Crab Relleno is more than just a delicious Filipino dish—it’s a taste of home, island life, and the simple joy of growing up with fresh seafood right from the sea.

Here’s a homemade Crab Relleno Recipe made with fresh crab meat that is savory

Ingredients:

  • Cooked crab shells, cleaned
  • 2 cups of fresh crab meat
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of butter of cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking oil for frying

How to Cook:

Clean the cooked crab shells and set them aside. Carefully check the crab meat and remove any remaining shell pieces or cartilage.

In a pan, heat butter or cooking oil over medium heat. Suate the garlic and onion until fragrant and becomes soft.

Add the crab meat, grated carrots then season with soy sauce, black pepper and salt. Mix gently cook for about 2 – 3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool.

Add the egg and breadcrumbs to the crab mixture, mixed again gently until all the ingredients are well combined.

Using a spoon, stuff the crab shells with the prepared mixture. Press the filling gently into the shell so it stick together while cooking.

Heat the cooking oil in a pan. Place the stuffed side down and fry until golden brown.

Serve with steamed rice.

Enjoy!

Crab Relleno may require a little extra preparation, but the final dish is flavorful, comforting, and perfect for sharing. Actually, this is just one of my favorites recipe of seafoods.
